01/50 - Das 50-Bilder-Projekt Sechs gewaltige Industriesilos auf Granville Island in Vancouver, Kanada, wurden vom brasilianischen Graffiti-Künstlerduo Os Gemeos wunderbar in sechs farbenfrohe Riesen verwandelt. Octavio und Gustavo Pandolfo, die Zwillingsbrüder hinter Os Gemeos, widmeten ungefähr einen Monat ihrer Zeit, um dieses erstaunliche Stück im Rahmen der Vancouver Biennale zu schaffen. Das Wandbild ist auch Teil des laufenden Kunstprojekts von Os Gemeos mit dem Titel „Giants“, dessen typische gelbe Riesenfiguren ihre Spuren in Städten auf der ganzen Welt hinterlassen. Da jedoch jedes Silo 23 Meter hoch ist und das Wandgemälde eine Gesamtfläche von 7.200 Quadratmetern einnimmt, ist dieses Stück bei weitem das größte in ihrer Sammlung und ihr erster Ausflug in die Dreidimensionalität Wandbildformat. Auf der Halbinsel Vancouver Island befinden sich eine Markthalle, ein Flohmarkt, eine Marina, die Emily Carr University of Art and Design (benannt nach der gleichnamigen Künstlerin), ein Museum für Modelleisenbahnen, mehrere Theater und Einkaufsstraßen. Trans Am Totem ist eine Kunstinstallation von Marcus Bowcott in Vancouver, Kanada, die während der Vancouver Biennale im April 2015 enthüllt wurde. marcusbowcott.com/?page_id=1270 . Der Totempfahl besteht aus fünf Autos auf einer hölzernen Basis, die aus einem einzigen Baumstamm hergestellt wurde. Die Fahrzeuge wurden von einem lokalen Schrotthändler gestiftet, nachdem die Motoren, Getriebe und die Antriebsstränge entfernt worden waren, um das Gewicht zu reduzieren. Sie wurden von Bowcott neu lackiert. Eine von einem Solarmodul gespeiste Stromversorgung lässt bei Nacht die Front- und Heckleuchten brennen. Vanier Park is a municipal park located in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is home to the Museum of Vancouver, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the City of Vancouver Archives, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. The Squamish people and their kin, the Tsleil-Waututh. Musqueam and Squamish/Tsleil-Waututh established a brief political unity in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century by Chief August Jack, aka Qahtsahlano, who inherited the chieftaincy of both peoples and established his residence at Snauq at the mouth of False Creek, now Vanier Park just west of the Burrard Bridge, rather than choose between residence at the Capilano Reserve or at Musqueam, as either of those would have had political implications for the one not chosen. Once a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) station, Number 7 Supply Depot, the site was turned over to the Vancouver Park Board by the Federal Government on October 28, 1966. Named for former Governor General of Canada Georges Vanier, the park officially opened on May 30, 1967. The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and the Vancouver Museum complex opened in 1968, thanks to lumber baron MacMillan’s $1.5 million donation. Deputy Park Board Superintendent William Livingstone, famous for his landscape design for Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Garden, increased the size of the original park site using tons of free fill from the excavation for the MacMillan Bloedel Building on Georgia Street. The fill added additional acres onto the park which was then landscaped by Livingstone and his crew. Vor allem die jeweils 16,5 Meter großen sowie 7500 Kilogramm schweren "Holzscheite" aus Stahl und Glas haben es den Besuchern angetan. "Sie sehen ein bisschen aus wie qualmende Zigaretten", scherzte ein Kanadier. Die 4 Säulen stehen für jene vier Stämme der First Nations Doch die vier Säulen haben auch eine symbolische Bedeutung. Sie stehen für die Lil'wat, Musqueam, Squamish und Tsleil-Waututh, jene vier Stämme der First Nations, auf deren Land Olympia stattfindet. Ihre Wurzeln in der Metropole an der Westküste sind während der Spiele wesentlich präsenter. Die einst vertriebenen Ureinwohner Kanadas gelten ansonsten noch immer als Randgruppe in der Gesellschaft.
