Gone Girl is a movie that keep throwing plot developments at you so you're not quite sure what's going to happen next. And although it was fun for a while, I thought it did take a little too long to end. I'm sure they were trying to keep in line with the book, but it just wasn't required.

Despite great performances and an intriguing situation that keeps you invested, it's how well the rest of the movie did that made the ending disappointing for me. There was a pattern of build up with an event, build up and event again, another build up and event, and one final build up and then, oh wait, nothing really happens it just stops. It's not a happy ending, and it doesn't have to be one, but with a fizzled out stop after several other climaxes it took too long inbetween the previous major event and the end of the movie. Especially when there was room to give one last gasp (e.g. they maybe could have unveiled that there's a history that runs back into the parents relationship as well).

Aside from the ending, it's an interesting story and is worth watching at least once. It may be harder to sit through a second time, because a lot of the drama comes from the uncertaincy of the situations. And at about 2 and 1/2 hours long, you're likely going to feel the full time as I didn't find it really flew by.
