Some old whiskey barrel staves from Hiram Walkers - white oak and characol burned. Turning them smelled heavenly as all the whiskey fumes came out of the wood pores ;-)

a friend had espalier pears trained up the side of the garage... planted there *years* ealier.. and uncerimoniously ripped down by the roofers... sigh. I collected some of the best gnarly bits and turned some bottle toppers.

out of mighty branches good things get created... okay - so that branch isn't all that big... trust me, it took the slow-growing juniper shrub MANY years to get to that diameter.
