March of the Penguins

17 May 2023 5 6 274
Nethergate, Dundee A.I.- Generate Article: Dundee has actually been associated with penguins for a long time. One reason for this association is the RRS Discovery , a ship now located at Dundee’s waterfront. Its first ever mission was to the British National Antarctica, which happens to be the home of the penguin. As a result of the ship’s successful mission, which saw the first sighting of an emperor penguin alongside extensive scientific research, the bird has become an important symbol of Dundee’s many explorers and inventors. In addition to this historical association, there are also five penguin sculptures located at City Churches in Dundee that have become a firm favorite with the Dundee public. Sculpted by Angela Hunter, these penguins are regularly dressed up to join in city occasions such as graduation, charity fundraising events, Christmas celebrations and Royal visits.

Shier's Well, Levengrove Park, Dumbarton

Shiers Well is an important historic feature of this area. Tradition suggests that it was a holy well, perhaps linked to the nearby St Serf's Church, which itself dates from before 1226 AD. Quoted from the West Dunbartonshire Council website This object would easily pass unremarked, but its water source was, at one time, of great importance for the town of Dumbarton. Blackbird

06 Dec 2020 13 8 396
The common blackbird (Turdus merula) is a species of true thrush. It is also called the Eurasian blackbird (especially in North America, to distinguish it from the unrelated New World blackbirds), or simply the blackbird where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species. It breeds in Europe, Asiatic Russia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand. Quoted from Wikipedia
