Context for the "down" side of the pass.

That's how far down I got before taking my pack and raingear off.

The pass is behind the pinnacle to the right.

Looking back up at the pass. I believe the people I passed heading up to the pass had the better idea - this side is not the side you want to come down.

From the first place I felt safe enough to stop and take off my pack and rain gear. Did I mention it was raining from the time I got to the pass to the time I got to about here? Yeah, that was extra stressful.

"Wait...what's up with those rungs and chains? That doesn't look normal. And where's the trail...?" (Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures over the threshold, showing the undercut 30ft dropoff. I couldn't tell it was "only" 30ft until I started down the rungs, and so couldn't casually make myself get close enough to hang a camera over the edge.)

"Oh, at least there are rungs and chains..."

"This doesn't look promising..." (Note that the camera distorts how big this pass was - it was barely enough for 4-5 people to stand around, and that "threshold" rock is only about 4-5 feet from where I'm standing.)

"Oh, is that where the trail continues...?"

Looking back down from the pass.

Looking down, after making it to the top. It wasn't all that difficult to get to this point (it looks much steeper in the other photos), but it started raining as I got to the top. I figured all the rock that I'd just ascended via chains would be rather slippery going back down.
