This is a detail of the effigy of Sir John Thornbury in All Saints church, Little Munden, Hertfordshire. He died in 1396 and is buried next to his wife. He is wearing a bastinet (a type of helmet) with chain mail.

The brass from this tomb is missing so it isn't certain who this couple are but it is likely they are John and Katherine Denston. The two figures are in their burial shrouds and are starting to decay. They aren't the most grisly cadaver effigies, but they are a little grisly!

Fawsley church in Northamptonshire is an absolute jewel. One of the monuments is a wonderful chest tomb with two effigies. This is a detail of Jane Skennard, Sir Richard Knightley's wife. He left her all his sheep.
