Uppark House and Gardens

Another image from Uppark House and Gardens (Natural Trust)...........this was taken with my (oldish) Samsung S9+ mobile phone, which I don't generally use for photography, but on this occasion I had a long lens on my camera and couldn't be bothered to change it for a wide angle. I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality, especially when viewed large.

Uppark House and Copper Beech

Taken during quick visit to Uppark House and Gardens (National Trust) a couple of weeks ago. The house always looks impressive, but I was so taken by this lovely Copper Beech tree surrounded by Cow Parsley, that I had to walk out and get this photo. I think viewing large is the way to go. Thanks for looking!

Uppark House

Uppark House was built in 1690 iin South Harting, West Sussex, England. It is a Grade I listed building and a National Trust property. As the sky was grey and featureless I decided that black and white was the way to go with this one. This is the nearest Trust property to where I live. Unfortunately I've never been able to visit the interior of the house, apart from a couple of ground floor rooms, mainly due to covid-19 restrictions, but the gardens are lovely and they do a pricey but very nice bit of coffee and cake in their café. In 1989 as work on restoring the roof was near completion a huge fire broke out on the top floors. The Fire Service worked to contain the fire while staff, volunteers and members of the public started removing the contents of the house to safety. Nevertheless, can imagine the damage done, not just directly by the fire, but also by the water used to contain it. You can read the amazing story of the fire and the subsequent restoration of the house using this link: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/uppark-house-and-garden/features/the-fire-at-uppark It's well worth a read if you have time.

Uppark House

Yesterday, we took a drive out to Uppark House and Gardens (National Trust). Although the house is closed (due to the corona virus) the gardens were open free of charge to the public. There were quite a few people there, but the gardens are very large and everyone seemed to be behaving responsibly and keeping well away from everyone else, which was good to see. We took a picnic lunch and had a lovely few hours out and some fresh air. Sadly it seems that the National Trust have had to close their gardens as well from today, due to a minority of the public being seemingly incapable of following Government advice to practice Social Distancing, putting all of us at more risk! We are fortunate in that we live very close to the coast and also some wonderful countryside, so as long as we are able (and allowed) we will continue to make the occasional foray out. Unlike some, we are also fortunate to have a garden to use as well. We feel very lucky under the circumstances. Some information on the house and gardens in the link, if anyone is interested: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/uppark-house-and-garden

Looking pretty in the sunshine. Shame there were no fluffy white clouds, but you gotta take what you get! A link for those that are interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uppark
