Portsmouth Guildhall

09 Oct 2025 13 14 47
The clocktower of Portsmouth Guildhall towers over the surrounding buildings. More detail about the Guildhall can be found in the link if you're interested: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_Guildhall

A view across Portsmouth Harbour

Looking towards the town of Gosport and lots of sailing boats. Taken in 16:9 format, so probably best viewed large.

Emsworth Houses

12 Feb 2025 18 25 297
Some of the beautiful houses that sit along the edge of the mill pond in Emworth, Hampshire. Taken in 16:9 format, so best viewed large for detail. Thanks for looking.

Langstone Harbour Houses (+PiP)

01 Oct 2024 15 29 304
Some of the houses along the sea wall at Langstone Harbour, Hampshire. There's definitely worse places to live :-)) Best viewed large if you have the time. There are a few more buildings in the PiP (including the Ship Inn).

Cowdray Estate, Midhurst, West Sussex

20 Aug 2023 19 26 208
Some of the cottages and other buildings found in the grounds of the Cowdray House Ruins, on the Cowdray Estate, Midhurst, West Sussex. The small building on the right is a store house (hat was probably used for grain). The little mushroom-like legs it's standing on are called Staddle Stones and were designed to help guard against water seepage and vermin. Better viewed large for detail. There is a close-up shot of the grain store in the PiP. Thanks for looking.

View from the City Walls, Chichester

24 May 2023 20 29 228
When I go to Chichester, I quite often have a stroll along the top of the old Roman city walls, which are still remarkably complete. I like to look at the backs of the houses and getting glimpses into their back gardens too. (Yes, I know I'm nosey.......but I can't help myself)! All the gardens back up to the edge of the walls and most are excellent sun-traps.

Beach Huts in Exmouth, Devon

29 Apr 2023 19 30 286
These rather posh-looking beach huts ( or chalets as the council calls them) overlook the road and the beach, with a view out to sea.. They have electricity and plumbing. They are very popular and you could be on the waiting list for 10-15 years. The current annual rent is nearly £3,000 per year. There are quite a few "ordinary" beach huts (without electricity or plumbing) available to rent for "only" around £1,400 per year. These have a waiting list of 3 to 5 years. Personally, we're happy to sit on a bench on the promenade :-)))

Emsworth Houses

18 Sep 2022 20 26 204
Some houses near the waterfront in Emsworth, Hampshire. The cream coloured one has been converted into a very popular restaurant called Fat Olives (which I've never eaten at). The rest are residential. There are lots of lovely old buildings in this little town, so I've added a couple of PiPs: The first is of one of the local pubs (also a restaurant) called The Coal Exchange and the second is a better view of the last three houses in this main image. The road in all three images leads to the harbour. Please excuse me for not cloning out any overhead wires (life is too short) :-) Thanks for looking.

Langstone Harbour Houses

11 Aug 2022 21 27 229
Langstone Village is a lovely little place and there are several houses which sit right on the waterfront. These are a few of them. I've walked along the sea wall here frequently since I was a child and I've always thought that this would be a lovely place to live. I'd need to win a substantial amount on the lottery though if I wanted to :-)))

Victoria Park, Portsmouth, Hampshire

12 Oct 2021 24 27 258
Situated next to the shopping centre, this is where I retreat to when my wife is wandering around the shops. It is beautifully kept and always a pleasure to visit. The buildings in the background are all student accommodation for the nearby Portsmouth University.

Guildford........River Wey

03 Oct 2021 19 17 219
Old and new buildings alongside the River Wey. Most of these are commercial premises, but just out of sight beyond the bend there is a lot of building work underway and I think some of them may be in the process of being converted for residential use. Since I last visited the riverside is looking a bit neglected.

Parmiters World Famous Antiques

28 Sep 2021 23 22 252
Another image from Albert Road in Southsea, Hampshire. (in this case at the junction with Exmouth Street). Once again demonstrating the eclectic mix of independent businesses, and building styles. Taken in 16:9 format, so best viewed large for best effect.

A view from The Independent Republic of Albert Roa…

11 Sep 2021 23 15 266
Albert Road, Southsea, Hampshire. A somewhat run down area, but well worth a wander. Full of cafés, restaurants, pubs, and dozens of sometimes quirky independent shops and a top notch theatre. There's a nice, friendly community feel to the place and there's always something to take a photo of. Best viewed large if you have time. Thanks for looking.

Old Portsmouth

14 Apr 2021 24 22 338
Some images of the architecture and landmarks taken during a walk around the sea wall in Old Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK. See notes for more info. Best viewed large - thanks for looking.

Old Portsmouth

Another view of Old Portsmouth taken from Gosport waterfront. The entrance to Portsmouth Harbour is adjacent to the Round Tower on the far right of the shot and the Sir Ben Ainsley Racing HQ is on the far left of the shot. Please view large, on black for best effect. Thank you.

Southsea Bandstand

07 Dec 2017 9 4 465
Southsea Bandstand with the Spinnaker Tower and the "Lipstick" Tower in the background. Taken back in July this year. I'm trawling the archives I'm afraid........I haven't taken many photos in the last week or so (at least none worth sharing)!
