Certain carvings and wall paintings at Lacock Abbey became illegal under reforms introduced by King Henry 8th. Instead of being destroyed, some of them were bricked in behind a false wall. Part of that wall was recently removed to reveal the medieval carvings in excellent condition. In this picture, some of the paint from the old wall paintings can be seen. This is not the window that Henry Talbot famously photographed (from inside) to create the world’s oldest surviving photographic negative in 1835, but it is in the same building complex. DNG from 2013, processed in 2022 using Affinity Photo software.
