As a child I listened to radio broadcasts of shows "live from Radio City" -- broadcasts that suggested all of the potential and excitement of the big city. The car with the hood raised had been part of the Dominican Day Parade that had passed through the area about 30 minutes earlier. I'd had no idea how large the Dominican community was in New York -- the parade was long and boisterous with multiple contingents of dancers. Makes most sense if viewed as part of Coming Out/Northeast set

Manhattan, Nevada. Largely abandoned former mining town. This structure had once covered two gas pumps -- if you look close you can see where the pumps were, on the outside of the columns that hold up the roof.

Manhattan, Nevada. Largely abandoned former mining town. Looking west from the east end of town. Per various websites, the town basically came into existence in about 1905 and was really active with mining only until some time in the 1910's. Considering the various buildings and equipment, it seems like the town was still relatively occupied into the 1940's, possibly with people working at other nearby mines.
