It's a (common name) Eastern Bloodsucking Conenose, a species of "kissing bug" capable of carrying a potentially fatal parasite. It sucks your blood and bites you on your lip. At night. While you're asleep. And it's found over much of the U.S. This one, I'm very sad to say, was in my bathroom sink. Yesterday.

. . . is the virtually nonexistent depth of field. This butterfly is an inch from wingtip to wingtip. Its body is in focus and its wings aren't. Stopping down doesn't help much. Physics is often our enemy!

. . . the 60mm f2.4 Fujinon likes these little flowers. Grabs and holds focus. Does not exhibit this behavior when pointed at other subjects. I'd still rather have a 90mm Macro Kilar in Fuji mount, but that would require such a lens to exist, and Marty Forscher is dead so there's no way of getting one.

Mahogany wasp starting its nest; it's slobbering on the next piece. Which is a little out of focus, but the thing was an instant from heading in my direction, with ill intent, so this one will have to do.

The 60mm f2.4 renders colors beautifully on the X-T1. But it is sheer hell to focus.

If the moving subject is a snail. It is a nice, sharp lens, no doubt about that. But it searches to focus, no matter what button is pushed. If it captures the critical moment, it will do so by sheer luck.

I've had the 60mm f2.4 macro Fujinon for more than a decade and have practically never used it. It is roundly disliked, in no small measure due to its endless searching for focus. I read a little about it the last few days and decided to give it another chance. This time I set it to manual focus and used the AF-L switch on the back.
