4th PLACE, CWP DECEMBER 2021 "Spiderwebs" I had never seen such a large spider web before, it was about 1m high and had wrapped itself around a dead shrub. It stands out particularly well with this backlight. Je n'avais jamais vu une toile d'araignée aussi grande auparavant, elle mesurait environ 1 m de haut et s'était enroulée autour d'un arbuste mort. Cela ressort particulièrement bien avec ce rétro-éclairage. Ich hatte vorher noch nie so ein grosses Spinnennetz gesehen, es war ca. 1 m hoch und hatte sich um einen abgestorbenen Strauch gewickelt. Mit dieser Hintergrundbeleuchtung kommt es besonders gut zur Geltung.

1st PLACE - WINNER IN CWP JANUARY 2026 "Views in the museum". Sur notre chemin vers le sud, nous avons visité le petit musée sur la construction du Viaduc de Millau, l'un des ponts à haubans le plus long du monde (2500 m), et l'ouvrage le plus haut de France, avec une hauteur maximale des piliers d'env. 340 m (*). Des vitesses de vent de plus de 200 km/h ont déjà été mesurées là-haut! (*) La Tour Eiffel mesure 324 m de haut avec l'antenne (sans, elle fait exactement 300 m). THE BRIDGE OF SUPERLATIVES. On our way south, we visited the little museum on the construction of the Millau Viaduct, one of the world's longest cable-stayed bridges (2500 m), and the tallest structure in France with a maximum height of the pillars of around 340 m (*). Wind speeds of over 200 km/h have already been measured up there! (*) The Eiffel Tower is 324 m high with the antenna (without: exactly 300 m). DIE BRÜCKE DER SUPERLATIVE. Auf unserem Weg nach Süden besuchten wir das kleine Museum über den Bau des Viadukts von Millau, einer der längsten Schrägseilbrücken der Welt (2500 m), und das höchste Bauwerk Frankreichs bei einer maximalen Pfeilerhöhe von ca. 340 m (*). Windgeschwindigkeiten von mehr als 200 km/h wurden da oben schon gemessen ! (*) Der Eiffelturm ist mit der Antenne 324 m hoch (ohne sind es genau 300 m).

6° place au "Contest Without Price" (2025/10) "Geometric shapes" Auparavant, une fontaine dédiée à saint Aldric se situait à l’emplacement du lavoir. Évêque du Mans au IXe siècle, il avait contribué au développement de l’irrigation et de la culture à Asnières. Au XIXe siècle, la fontaine est remplacée par ce lavoir. GEOMETRIC SHAPES FOR THE OLD WASH HOUSE. A fountain dedicated to Saint Aldric used to stand at this place. In the 9th century he was Bishop of Le Mans and contributed to the development of irrigation and culture in Asnières. In the 19th century the fountain was replaced by this wash house. GEOMETRISCHE FORMEN FÜR DAS ALTE WASCHHAUS. Früher stand an dieser Stelle ein dem Heiligen Aldric geweihter Brunnen. Im 9. Jh. war er Bischof von Le Mans und trug zur Entwicklung der Bewässerung und Kultur in Asnières bei. Im 19. Jh. wurde der Brunnen durch dieses Waschhaus ersetzt.

1st PLACE - WINNER IN CWP DECEMBER 2022 The wrecks of the former fishing boats "L'Angelus" and "L'Etacq" have been stranded in Portbail harbor for decades and are a photographic attraction. In fact, the misery of their sad end of life contrasts with the photogenicity of their colorful and weather-worn planks... CLÔTURE POURRIE. Les épaves des anciens bateaux de pêche "L'Angélus" et "L'Etacq" échouées dans le havre de Portbail depuis des décennies constituent une attraction photographique. En effet, la misère de leur triste fin de vie contraste avec la photogénie de ses planches colorées et usées par les intempéries... MORSCHER ZAUN. Die seit Jahrzehnten im natürlichen Hafen von Portbail gestrandeten Wracks der ehemaligen Fischerboote "L’Angelus" und "L’Etacq" sind eine fotografische Attraktion. Tatsächlich kontrastiert das Elend ihres traurigen Lebensendes mit der Fotogenität ihrer farbigen und vom Wetter verwitterten Planken...

1st PLACE - WINNER IN CWP NOVEMBER 2024 Golden Autumn Forest in the Taunus mountains. Entends-tu le bruits des feuilles qui crissent quand on marche dessus ? Forêt d'automne dorée dans les montagnes du Taunus. Hörst du das Rascheln des Laubes, wenn man darüber läuft ? Goldener Herbstwald im Taunus.

6° place au "Contest Without Price" (2025/09) "Man Made Arches" L’une des plus grandes cités de la Gaule Romaine était "Augustodunum", l'actuelle ville d'Autun. Elle disposait de 4 portes monumentales, édifiées au début du 1er siècle ap. JC sous le règne d’Auguste. Trois des quatre portes sont encore partiellement visibles, dont cette Porte d'Arroux (le nom actuel date de l’époque médiévale, on ignore l'appellation à l’époque romaine). TWO LARGE ARCHES FOR VEHICLES, TWO SMALLER ONES FOR PEDESTRIANS... One of the largest cities in Roman Gaul was ‘Augustodunum’, the present-day town of Autun. It had 4 monumental gates, built at the beginning of the 1st century AD during the reign of Augustus. Three of the four gates are still partially visible, including this Porte d'Arroux (the current name dates from medieval times; the name used in Roman times is unknown). ZWEI GROSSE BÖGEN FÜR DEN DURCHGANG VON WAGEN, ZWEI KLEINE FÜR FUSSGÄNGER... Eine der grössten Städte im römischen Gallien war "Augustodunum", die heutige Stadt Autun. Sie verfügte über vier monumentale Stadttore, die Anfang des 1. Jh. n. Chr. unter der Herrschaft des Augustus errichtet wurden. Drei der vier Tore sind teilweise noch sichtbar, darunter diese Porte d'Arroux (der heutige Name stammt aus dem Mittelalter, die Bezeichnung aus der Römerzeit ist unbekannt).

Béhuard est l'unique commune à être une île dans la Loire. JA, DAS IST DIE HAUPTSTRASSE IN BEHUARD ! Béhuard ist die einzige Gemeinde, die eine Insel in der Loire ist.

3rd PODIUM WINNER, CWP OCTOBER 2024 J'ai vu ce halo solaire un jour d'octobre dans le ciel au-dessus de notre maison. Il était impressionnant, par sa taille et par les couleurs qui changeaient au fur et à mesure que le temps passait. C'était un cercle lumineux autour du Soleil. Il se forme avec la présence de cirrostratus (nuages blanchâtres) à haute altitude, composés de petits cristaux de glace. C'est donc l'interaction entre la lumière du soleil avec les cristaux de glace en suspension dans l'atmosphère qui est à l'origine de ce phénomène spectaculaire. STEALING THE RAINBOW'S SHOW... I saw this solar halo on an October day in the sky above our house. It was impressive, both in size and in the colours that changed as time went by. It was a luminous circle around the Sun, formed by the presence of cirrostratus clouds (whitish clouds) at high altitude, made up of small ice crystals. It is the interaction between sunlight and ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere that causes this spectacular phenomenon. DEM REGENBOGEN DIE SHOW STEHLEN... Ich sah diesen Sonnenhalo an einem Oktobertag am Himmel über unserem Haus. Er war beeindruckend, sowohl wegen seiner Größe als auch wegen der Farben, die sich im Laufe der Zeit veränderten. Es war ein heller Kreis um die Sonne, der durch die Anwesenheit von Cirrostratus-Wolken (weissliche Wolken) in grosser Höhe entsteht, die aus kleinen Eiskristallen bestehen. Es ist also die Wechselwirkung zwischen dem Sonnenlicht und den in der Atmosphäre schwebenden Eiskristallen, die dieses spektakuläre Phänomen verursacht.

6° place au "Contest Without Price" (2023/06): Modern Architecture. Depuis 2004, le viaduc de Millau dans le Sud de la France mène l'A75 (Paris-Montpellier) au-dessus du Tarn. Avec ses 2 460 m, c'est l'un des ponts à haubans le plus long du monde et, avec une hauteur maximale des piliers d'environ 340 m, c'est l'ouvrage le plus haut de France (*). 2nd PODIUM WINNER, CWP NOVEMBER 2023 'Reflections' Construit à partir de 1596 par Gilles de Ruellan, percepteur du roi Henri IV et proche du cardinal de Richelieu, le château "Rocher-Portail" est à mi-chemin entre forteresse médiévale et château Renaissance. WHEN WATER ACTS AS A MIRROR ...Built from 1596 by Gilles de Ruellan, tax collector of King Henri IV and close to Cardinal Richelieu, the "Rocher-Portail" castle is halfway between a medieval fortress and a Renaissance castle.
