Where The Earth Moves

24 Apr 2023 70 75 554
A view of part of the magical Quiraing on the Isle of Skye viewed from the Uig side. I say magical because the landscape is truly fantastic, with craggy cliffs, pinnacles and plateaus as well as small lakes The Quiraing is part of the Trotternish Ridge escarpment which was formed by a series of landslips, and is one of the the largest in Britain, the Quiraing being the only one where the land is still moving. The road below it needs regular repair due to the way the land shifts a few centimetres each year. The Quiraing comes from the Old Norse 'Kvi Rand'. meaning ' Round Fold'. The 'fold' of the landscape was used back then to conceal cattle from Viking raiders. I have added Carole King's 'I Feel The Earth Move' as my link www.youtube.com/watch?v=6913KnbMpHM Best viewed large I think. Thank you

Stein Way HBM

10 Oct 2021 55 47 411
This is the way into the pretty and tiny village of Stein, Waternish, Isle of Skye. The village boasts the oldest pub on Skye. Stein looked quite charming in the sunlight with the white buildings, the trees and the flowers along the walls, , and the road leads on down to Loch Bay with a small slipway. I have chosen Diana Krall's 'Wallflower' as a link here. It is quite a pretty and gentle song and Diana's piano is a Steinway, hence the title here www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy79rhPrGcU Best viewed large for detail

Roiling Clouds and Castle Ruins HFF!

20 May 2021 84 86 876
A storm about to break over Kyleakin harbour and the ruins of Castle Moil (Casteal Maol) on the Isle of Skye. Fragments of a medieval tower are all that remain. Built in the 15th Century by the MacKinnan family, it is thought it may have been built on the site of an earlier structure. Following the death of James V a meeting of the chiefs was held here and it was decided that Sir Donald MacDonald was to become the new Lord of the Isles Prior to the building of the Skye Bridge the old ferry used to run from Loch Ailsh to Kyleakin Best viewed large.
