American white pelicans gather on rocks in Wascana Creek, where water from the lake of the same name flow into the creek, under the Albert Memorial Bridge. The north side of the creek, from which this was taken, is much higher due to a berm that was constructed as a flood protection measure. The pelicans congregate together, but in this instance one is looking for breakfast by the south side of the creek.

I am fascinated by how American white pelicans hang out with each other. In this case two of them paddle along in sync with each other.

Places to go, things to see..

Four pelicans had been cruising along together, taking turns ducking under to look for supper, when they simultaneously ducked under.

I look forward to the return of the White American Pelicans each spring. When the water level on Wascana Creek declines and the stones are visible again they gather in the morning to preen or hang out together. I took this image during my first visit with them in 2025.
