Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0DM "Mighty Atom" - built at Leeds during 1943, exhaust spark arresting used a water trap. Worked at Springfields munition works, which later became BNFL. Became surplus to requirements in early 1990s, saved from the scrapman and restored by a group of BNFL workers. Named "Mighty Atom" on the 50th anniversary of her delivery to Springfield, on 10Dec1993. Came to Southport two years later. Fowler 4160001 is a 0-4-0DM shunter, built in 1952 at Leeds. Powered by a McLaren diesel, she is the prototype for her class. “Persil” worked at the soap works of Joseph Crosfield & Sons at Warrington until 1971, when she was donated to Steamport, arriving in 1972 as the first exhibit, before the museum was actually open. . ribblesteam.org.uk/exhibits/diesel/fowler-4160001-1952-persil

John Fowler 0-4-0 DM No 16038 aka "Andy" Built Leeds 1923 as prototype Petrol powered shunter. Was delivered to Blackburn gas works the same year where it remained till the 1950s when it was sold to ICI. It was around this point the original American built petrol engine was replaced with a Gardner Diesel engine. During the Mid 60s the loco was acquired by Bush sons of Alfreton where it was used at various local sites including Britain pit. The engine entered preservation during the 1970s and was stored at normanton barracks Derby, unfortunately while stored all brass fittings were stolen as well as its final drive. Andy was later moved to the midland railway, ownership was transferred from Ian Wheatley to Ian Oldham with restoration starting soon after. All work stopped on the loco in 2004, by this point all that was required was the missing final drive. The engine has been stored behind the historic carriage and wagon shed since. Mr Adam Asling acquired the locomotive in 2012. Plans for 2017 are to remove the loco from behind the shed and commence a full restoration

This little work-horse is a 4-wheel Diesel mechanical from the Hunslet Engine Co, Leeds. Built in 1950 with 2ft diameter wheels - engine is ?? It is an ex-National Coal Board locomotive, from Huncoat Colliery in Lancashire. It was named after Alf Robens, NCB Chairman [1961 - 1971] - his tenure included the Aberfan disaster in 1966, and his subsequent actions around the matter were heavily criticised in many quarters. His 1972 report on workplace health and safety led to the 1974 H&S at Work Act.

Cadbury No.14 was built by Hudswell Clarke as Works Number D1012 with a Gardner 107HP 6LW engine in August 1955. She is a Diesel Mechanical with 3’0” wheels as an 0-4-0 and weighs 20 Tons, the locomotive had a top speed of 14mph and could haul up to 200 Tons. She started work at the Moreton [biscuit] factory in September 1956 and remained there until the locomotives retirement in 1977. There followed a peripatetic existence between a number of railway and other locations before arriving at Statfold in 2022, she has been cosmetically restored and again serves as a Gate Guardian.
