The Zrenjanin workshops are an hour's drive to the east of Novi Sad and were first established in 1887 to overhaul railway locomotives and wagons. Before the year 2000 'velvet' revolution in Serbia there were 1,500 workers but this rapidly tailed off until the works was standing idle in 2007 and subsequently has mostly been demolished.
