Orenstein & Koppel 5662 of 1912 was sold to a company in Argentina and may have worked there in the sugar industry. It arrived in the UK in 2003 having languished out of use since at least the 1980s and eventually came to Apedale via Statfold Barn in May 2014. Restoration was completed at Apedale and the loco entered traffic in 2022. It is seen here ready for work at the late December gala on the Apedale Valley Light Railway.

A great sunny day out to the Apedale winter gala. Kerr Stuart 2395/1917 Tattoo in action on its way back up the bank. This is a lovely friendly railway which had four locos in steam along with a range of i/c locomotives in action yesterday.

Looking down an old road in the coal workings at Apedale, Staffs. Underground tours can be made here and the 'deeper underground' trips are particularly interesting.

Apedale

The Apedale mines were always welcoming when I visited and allowed freedom to wander around the site so long as I did not enter the adits. This view has tubs being tipped close to the Rescue Room with Loomer Road stadium and part of Holditch Colliery site in the background.

Deeper under Apedale

Today I went deeper under Apedale on the first of the new tours into the further reaches of the colliery. I believe that this particular level accesses the Spencroft seam which was reckoned to be highly suitable for use in steam locomotives. We saw at least six different seams and quite a bit of ironstone whilst underground.
