Fuel depot

13 Nov 2024 3 212
A peek into the Bramhall fuel distribution depot. This site was at one time rail served but is now supplied direct by pipeline from Stanlow refinery. Lorries work from here supplying filling stations over south Manchester and north-east Cheshire.

Caister Road bus depot

The Great Yarmouth bus depot was built for trams by Boulton and Paul of Norwich and was opened in 1898. It was severely damaged by bombing during WWII and reconstructed by 1947 apart from the façade, in an art-deco style with panels showing transport through the ages, which was constructed by F. R. Hipperson and Son Ltd in 1948.

Vents

I recently found time to take a stroll over to the Bramhall fuel distribution depot, but it proved to have few photographic opportunities from behind the security fence. I did manage a chat with one of the lorry drivers and was aggressively questioned by a woman in a car that was leaving the premises. She didn't seem able to comprehend that someone might just want to photograph the place out of interest.

Huang Guo Tung

This was billed as the "secret" depot in Shenyang and it was certainly hidden away amongst the back street of this district. It was very busy at the time of my visit with locomotives coming on and off shed all the time. The roster was roughly equal numbers of JS class 2-8-2 and QJ 2-10-2. When I passed by train in 2008 the whole area had been redeveloped and it was hard to tell that there had ever been a shed there. It is now a stabling point for inter city electric multiple units.

Harbin Roundhouse

10 Nov 2010 283
Harbin depot was very busy in 1992 with a steady stream of locomotives being serviced or moving onto the turntable. The large semi-roundhouse was filled with locomotives under maintenance. Today the site lies under a concrete road viaduct.

Pingdingshan shift change

03 Feb 2008 1 240
Early morning at Pingdingshan depot and several JS class locomotives are on shed for servicing and shift change. The steam parade is much diminished by the arrival of many new diesel locomotives but there is still plenty of atmosphere to be found here for the time being.
