Truck (and Bibendum) in Stavanger

07 Jul 2025 6 3 284
While we were walking around the pier near our cruise ship, we saw this truck. It was probably unloading supplies for the ship. We like the "Bibendum" characters perched on the cab. Image processed with GIMP.

The Cruise Ship Maasdam at Bar Harbor, Maine (HWW)

05 Apr 2025 9 7 756
Very atypical of us, but we were NOT on a cruise. We were visiting Maine in our motorhome, and stopped for a few days in Bar Harbor. This town is popular with cruise lines, hence the ship anchored in the harbor. The rock formations of the harbor are interesting, a feature often applied to the entire coast of Maine. The folks in the foreground are probably crew members, not cruise passengers or idle tourists like ourselves. This photo was taken in 2011. Over the next few years, we took several cruises on the Maadam. I believe that she has been recently sold. Image processed with GIMP.

Golden Gate and Hot Tub

17 May 2024 335
We have sailed out of San Francisco, with the Golden Gate Bridge now in the background. Note the fellows sitting in the hot tub on the ship. The wind was blowing strongly, and I wouldn't want to walk around in a bathing suit. They obviously found a great place to view the majestic bridge. Image processed with GIMP.

Stack and Bridge

Under the Golden Gate Bridge, as we sailed out. The wind was blowing very strongly. It was hard to hold the camera steady. End of a beautiful day in San Francisco. I like the heat waves made by the exhaust of the ship's engines. Image processed with GIMP.

Ship and Trolley Station (HFF)

17 May 2024 9 7 372
At the trolley station near the pier in Astoria, Oregon. The trolley wasn't running, so I had to hoof it. That's our ship (Regatta) in the background. Image taken with phone and processed with GIMP.

Decorated Table for "Oscars Night"

19 Sep 2023 9 2 473
During our South America cruise in 2008, the cruise line went out of their way to have "special" nights in the main dining room. Each time, all new decorations were put up. Certainly made for a festive evening. This table is decorated for "Oscars Night". We were at sea when Hollywood had its special night. Image processed with GIMP.

Champagne Pyramid (H.A.N.W.E.)

24 Jul 2022 17 7 607
We were on a Holiday cruise from Melbourne, Australia to New Zealand and back. During the cruise, we celebrated Christmas, and then arrived back in Melbourne just in time for their spectacular New Year event. This was the "champagne pyramid" onboad ship, waiting for the big night. Image processed with GIMP.

Vase (H.A.N.W.E.)

21 Apr 2022 26 15 696
We took a great cruise in 2019 on the Oceania Marina. While walking around this elegant ship, we saw a number of decorations, including this vase. Added to Sunday Challenge as a "still life". According to some sources: "A still life (plural: still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, shells, etc.) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, etc.)." C. Columbus2 in Tenerife (HFF)

04 Mar 2022 19 3 501
During our stay in the Canary Islands, we stopped and looked around Tenerife. In the harbor was the "C. Columbus 2" a cruise ship from Hapag-Lloyd. This ship design was very familiar to us, as we cruised on a "sister" of this ship, one of the old R-ships. When Renaissance went broke, they sold their ships to a number of other cruise lines. Image processed with GIMP.

Roatan Cruise Port Under Construction (HFF)

11 Sep 2020 21 8 978
That's our cruise ship in the background. When we first visited Roatan in 2005, all they had was a large concrete slab for cruise passengers. This photo taken in 2019 shows that they have more now, including a shopping zone, but the port is now under major construction. Image taken with phone and processed with GIMP.

Allure of the Seas (BW)

23 Aug 2020 20 10 1000
During our December 2019 cruise, we stopped at Costa Maya, Mexico. While we perhaps thought that our cruise ship was large, the "Allure of the Seas" is a monster. Looked better in monochrome, so I used GIMP to make the changes. (Does look better on a black background) See: swansongrp.com/P/p and swansonphotos.com/riviera1
