This huge mass of concrete is the counterweight for the Mystic Bridge (Connecticut). See PiP. The bridge was built in 1922. Taken with the phone and processed with GIMP.

Near Soccoro, New Mexico. This is the Very Large Array (VLA), an amazing set of radio telescopes. We were fortunate that they were offering an "open house" that day, so we were able to view the computers, etc in the control area, as well as walk around some of these awesome structures. Historic building near the pier in Astoria, Oregon. There were many immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily due to the lumber industry. This building survived the construction of the huge bridge over the Columbia River. Image taken with phone and processed with GIMP.

Taken at Casa Grande National Monument. The ancient building is now under a protective cover. The ranger is describing the structure and its history. The walls are made of adobe from the topsoil of the desert. It must have taken quite a large group of people to excavate, form the adobe "bricks" and then erect the walls of this structure.
