Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park, Maine

We drove around Acadia for a day. There are several lakes in this peninsula, and they are very scenic. These rocks appear along the ocean coastline, which is just a few miles from this lake. Image processed with GIMP.

Potential Wall and Existing Wall (HWW, HFF)

Our house on Maui (left) got a retaining wall. This is the start of the project, where all you have are rocks (December 2006). The walls on Maui (and I think many other islands) were built by people from Tonga. They seemed to be the only ones in the business. Our neighbor's house (right) already has a retaining wall. (Oh yes, our, and our neighbor's fences are in the picture, too. Our "lanai" is above the garage. We spent many hours there watching the beautiful scenery, and the shipping in the harbor.) The Falls in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (H.A.N.W.E.…

Interesting waterfall and park. A month or so ago, we had heavy rains and this scenic falls became a massive torrent. Didn't even try to get near and take any photos. On this nice day, there were a few people around (see upper right corner). Do view on a black background. Image processed with GIMP.

Devils Gulch, South Dakota

Reflections in the pool at the bottom of this scenic gulch. It is famous, because outlaw Jesse James was supposed to have jumped the gulch on his horse in order to elude the posse. It is mysterious because no one has been able to find the bottom. All in all, this is a very unusual place, located in an otherwise typical midwest small town. (Various areas nearby were treated as sacred by the Native Americans.) www.southdakotamagazine.com/devils-gulch Image processed with GIMP, cropped to square format.

Agate Beach, Oregon, 1918

This is a snapshot from a collection that was generously shared with me. The photos were taken in Agate Beach, Oregon in 1918, when this fellow was in the Army. He was a "Spruce Soldier", the workers who logged the spruce lumber in the Pacific Northwest for the War effort. To get to the spruce stands, these soldiers created roads and railroads, usually by hand. See: swansongrp.com/spruce Image processed with GIMP.

Entrance to Yellowstone National Park (HWW)

The entrance is made up of a huge wall of rock cemented together. This used to be the main entrance, but the road bypasses it now. Image taken with the Panasonic GX85 and processed with GIMP.
