Hoover Dam Mens Restroom Sign, Art Deco (HWW)

25 Jan 2026 6 5 160
Fanciest rest room sign I've ever seen. The Art Deco design of the buildings for Hoover Dam are very impressive. (Of course, these masses of concrete don't just contain a restroom...) Taken during our 2012 visit.

Hoover Dam Bridge (Pat Tilman Memorial)

Taken during our 2012 visit. They had completed the Pat Tilman Memorial Bridge, across the Colorado canyon just below the Dam.

Maintenance Hoist, Hoover Dam

Equipment being delivered or removed has to be slung down the steep canyon sides, in order to be (de)installed. This item was delivered during our visit to the Dam, and appears to be part of the electrical generation equipment. These cable cranes, spanning the entire width of Black Canyon, date from the original construction of the Dam in the 1930's. Taken during our 2012 visit.

Antenna Tower Complete

15 Jul 2025 5 3 277
In this photo, the tower is now up. In addition to the horizontal elements, the tower was constructed with a pulley system. An additional horizontal wire dipole is being raised using that pulley. This antenna system was used during the Field Day (28 June 2025) for many contacts. Our amateur radio (HAM) club is closely involved with the city Public Safety organization. Events like this are practice for handling potential natural disasters. WØZWY, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Image taken with the phone and processed with GIMP.

Antenna Tower Work

15 Jul 2025 2 241
Our amateur radio club (HAMS) took part in the official Field Day 28 June 2025. One of the members has built a tower that can be towed behind a vehicle. WØZWY, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Erecting the tower is specialized work, so we just stood aside, unless asked for help. The team here has done this several times over the years. You can see the antenna arms pre-positioned on the ground, before being mounted on the rotator at the top. Image taken with phone and processed with GIMP.

Tower, Stavanger

At the top of a hill. This tower had a great view of the port activities. Image processed with GIMP.

Tower, Cheyenne Station

20 Jun 2024 6 2 511
Taken at the train station in downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Union Pacific operates near here, including the "steam shop" for the historic locomotives. The story is told that this station is positioned within the view just down the hill from the state capitol building. UP wanted the legislators of Wyoming to clearly see where the state's wealth was coming from. Image processed with GIMP.
