Our wall construction continued. To catch up: we contracted with the local Tongan men to have them construct a retaining wall for our home in Maui (December 2006). This construction was last seen as a big pile of volcanic rock. You can see the back view of the construction with the (PiP). Now we have the shape of the wall taking form. Our neighbor's house (right, yellow color) already has a retaining wall, but it's not Hawaiian style. (Oh yes, our, and our neighbor's fences are in the picture, too. Our "lanai" is above the garage. We spent many hours there watching the beautiful scenery, and the shipping in the harbor.) Image processed with GIMP.

We took a long weekend and flew from Maui to Honolulu. One of the photo opportunities we took was a visit to a bamboo forest at the Wahiawa Botanical Garden on Oah'u. While swatting mosquitoes, we got some good photos. This looks OK in color, but I like it more, after converting to monochrome. Taken in 2007 using the Nikon D50. Image processed with UFRaw and GIMP. We enjoyed a pleasant walk in the wood around Priest Lake, Idaho. The location is quite scenic. I saw these berries on a plant (probably common) in the forest. Finally got the selective focus to work right. Image processed with GIMP.

This was taken inside the special butterfly area at the Franklin Park Conservatory. I'm not an insect photographer, so it was quite a revelation to find that it is HARD to get any photos of these insects, as they flit around the area. See: swansonphotos.com/franklin Taken with the Panasonic GX85.
