Saw this construction area and crane in Reunion. We didn't see much else, for various reasons.

Wall Construction, From the Back (HWW, HFF)

Our 2006 wall construction project, from a different view this time. You can see how they have completed some of the wall, and are now filling in behind it with sand. (The PiP shows the front view.)
The ever-present wheelbarrow can be seen. The other very important tool is the cooler in the foreground. When the Tongans work on a wall, they prefer to live on the property while the project continues. They asked if they could put the cooler in our garage, a first step towards their moving into the garage. We had to say no, so the cooler is sitting outside with the rest of the tools.
You can see a neighbor's fence in the upper left.

Wall Progress (HWW, HFF)

Our wall construction continued.
To catch up: we contracted with the local Tongan men to have them construct a retaining wall for our home in Maui (December 2006).
This construction was last seen as a big pile of volcanic rock. You can see the back view of the construction with the (PiP).
Now we have the shape of the wall taking form.
Our neighbor's house (right, yellow color) already has a retaining wall, but it's not Hawaiian style.
(Oh yes, our, and our neighbor's fences are in the picture, too. Our "lanai" is above the garage. We spent many hours there watching the beautiful scenery, and the shipping in the harbor.)

Potential Wall and Existing Wall (HWW, HFF)

Our house on Maui (left) got a retaining wall. This is the start of the project, where all you have are rocks (December 2006).
The walls on Maui (and I think many other islands) were built by people from Tonga. They seemed to be the only ones in the business.

Bridge Over Columbia, Astoria, Oregon (HFF)

Quite an engineering achievement. This bridge allows shipping to enter and leave the Columbia River at Astoria.
Taken with the phone as I was wandering around the waterfront; processed with GIMP.
