Fences, Rails, Signals, Signs, Central Station, Sy…

13 Jan 2023 34 10 563
Taken with my new (2016) Panasonic GX85. One of its settings is "L-Monochrome", which is a Leica-inspired monochrome range. I like it. Image processed with GIMP.

Orange Building

12 Jan 2023 18 4 569
We could see much of "downtown" Sydney from our apartment balcony. It being close to Christmas, they were illuminating several buildings close by (TownHall area). This particular one changed color every 30 seconds or so. Every once in a while, it was orange. This was a test of my new (2016) Panasonic GX85. I set it at ISO 25,600, which accounts for the obvious noise you will see in the photo. However, after a little work in GIMP, I was able to make it square format, and improve the details a little. Overall, I'm amazed by the low-light capability of this camera.

Wall Art for Hannahs (hot) Pies, Ultimo (HWW, H.A.…

11 Jan 2023 13 5 390
While we were walking around Ultimo, Sydney, I noticed the interesting wall art/advertisement for Hannah's Pies. Image processed with GIMP. This was during the first week that I had the Panasonic GX85, and was still getting used to using it.

Cafe Tables Inside Sydney Opera House (HTT)

10 Jan 2023 13 9 318
One of the public area inside the Opera House. The tables were part of a cafe located there. The sweep of the architectural design was quite interesting. It shows some "lines and planes" (at least the lines anyway, maybe a few planes) for the Sunday Challenge. This was taken with my (new in 2016) Panasonic GX85. Very happy with it. Image processed with GIMP.

Hard Bench (HBM, HTT)

09 Jan 2023 27 16 348
The park at Watsons Bay, Sydney. The folks in the foreground are using the stone "bench", which seems a bit uncomfortable to me. In the background are more conventional benches, and picnic tables. These photos were taken with the new (in 2016) Panasonic GX85. I was just getting used to the settings and operation. Image processed with GIMP.

Watsons Bay Beach (H.A.N.W.E.)

07 Jan 2023 11 3 382
As we shiver in the cold here up North, it is nice to enjoy a summer's view of Watsons Bay beach, Sydney. Image processed with GIMP.

Fence and Sign for Taronga Zoo, Sydney (HFF)

06 Jan 2023 12 6 341
The sign welcoming us to the zoo. We had a great time. Oh yes, and a fence, too. Image processed with GIMP.

Ape Compound, Taronga Zoo (HWW, H.A.N.W.E.)

04 Jan 2023 21 3 432
The apes are in an open compound, but the zoo has added a wall on the back. There are "holes" in the wall that allow the apes to have some privacy. This mother is being bugged by the baby, something I expect all mothers have to deal with. Image processed with GIMP.

German Beer (HTT, H.A.N.W.E.)

03 Jan 2023 16 4 537
In the Munich Brauhaus, located in the Rocks area of Sydney. The German food, band, and drink were great! Image processed with GIMP.

Central Station, Sydney (HBM)

02 Jan 2023 21 7 662
Soon after I bought the new Panasonic GX85 in Sydney, I spent some time trying out the various settings. One such setting is called "L-Monochrome", which is a Leica-inspired monochrome palette. Anyway, Happy Bench Monday! And Happy New Year, all! image processed with GIMP.

Elephant at Taronga Zoo (HFF, H. A. N. W. E.)

30 Dec 2022 14 5 484
Just one of the interesting sights at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Pretty strong fence there. (Have A Nice Weekend, perhaps at the zoo...) Image processed with GIMP.

Korean Chicken at Arisun, Sydney (H.A.N.W.E.)

22 Dec 2022 7 4 463
We stayed in Sydney quite near to Chinatown. The Arisun Korean restaurant was just a few doors down. Their fried chicken was wonderful. HAVE A NICE WEEKEND (really Merry Christmas to all on Ipernity!) The restaurant was an interesting experience, because they were constantly playing Korean music videos on multiple screens. Image processed with GIMP.

Acoustic Wall, Sydney Opera House (HWW)

21 Dec 2022 24 9 267
While the exterior of the Opera House is quite famous, don't miss the interesting details inside. While the outer shell can seem austere with concrete here and there, this interior acoustic wall, made up of many wood strips, is warmer and even friendlier (?) in its own way. Image taken with the (at the time) new Panasonic GX85, and processed with GIMP.

Pavillion, Taronga Zoo, Sydney (HBM)

19 Dec 2022 18 7 404
We had a fun day, visiting the Zoo in Sydney. We were also fortunate to see the Zoo in Melbourne, and a wildlife refuge near Sydney. The animal life is amazing. This is the Pavillion building at the Zoo. Image processed with GIMP

Merry Crate-Mas, Sydney, Australia

18 Dec 2022 23 15 389
We spent December 2016 in Australia, visiting Sydney and Melbourne. While walking through The Rocks area of Sydney, we came upon this holiday-themed sculpture. Seems to be made from plastic milk crates, and the name "Crate-Mas" is certainly special for the holidays. Image processed with GIMP.

Moon and Clouds as We Approached Sydney Harbor

13 May 2020 10 2 679
As our ship approached Sydney Harbor for a magnificent entry, I saw that the moon was playing with the clouds. This was taken with the Nikon D700, near the entrance to Sydney Harbor. More photos at: swansongrp.com/oz2016/sydney_entrance.html and swansongrp.com/P/p/night_narrative/index.html

Luna Park at Night (HFF)

12 May 2020 41 25 1044
We were entering Sydney Harbor at night, and the sights were remarkable. The illuminated sign for Luna Park is famous, and well worth a picture. (Some people thinks it's kinda creepy) For the Sunday Challenge, this is very definitely a "type" of architecture. Note the towers on the sides of the face, they look very much like the Chrysler Building in New York. Taken with the Nikon D700 at high ISO. Machine (BW)

13 Feb 2020 15 6 845
The gears of a machine at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia. It is a steam-powered printing press. This is a "tool", indeed a very important one in the history of the world. While the original hand-operated presses appeared in mid-1400's, the effect of the printing press is still being felt today in 2023. The historical researcher Elizabeth Eisenstein makes the point that society is still trying to deal with the impact of this invention. The original photo is in color, but I kinda liked the converted image. The conversion was done with GIMP. The photo was taken with the Panasonic GX85.
