Taking during our safari in 2018. This male was close, but not really that close. I had the full telephoto lens zoomed in, and the eye completely filled my view. This was one of the young males that was challenging us (in our open sided vehicle...) I stopped using the big telephoto, and grabbed a point-and-shoot camera to make a video of the confrontation. The males eventually moved off, when they decided we were not a threat. Image processed with GIMP.

Taking during our safari in 2018. This was a frame of a video I took as this young male challenged us. We sat in our open-sided vehicle, taking pictures and waiting see what he would do. He is giving us a real big sniff, trying to figure out if we are a female (he would then try to mate), or another male (he would then fight us). Taken during our 2018 safari in South Africa. We got to see a number of lion groups in the Kruger National Park area. This was taken with the Panasonic GX85 with a 200-400 telephoto, and then cropped with GIMP.

Taken during our safari at Kruger National Park, South Africa. Near the end of the first day, the driver took us around to see some animals in the dark. He used a spotlight to illuminate them, which probably caused some irritation... There was a pride of lions in the grass nearby, and his spotlight caught this lion quite close to us. (The lions are over-lit, but there are now some possibly dangerous shadows. Who else is in the grass, waiting for a Sunday Challenge?) Taken at Bluff Cove in the Falklands. The managers there told us to not cross the rope line between the pathway and the rookery. However, the penguins decided to ignore the barrier, and we got a lot of good closeups. Nikon D700

Taken on Grand Canary, Spain. We were taking a tour from our cruise in 2013, and stopped in the small town of Teror. There was a very nice park with a pond full of lily pads, turtles, and this lone frog. Image processed with GIMP.
