Shoes On Wire On Letna, Prague, CZ, 2009

What really constitutes Letna, or Letna Park, is a matter of definitions. Some people only count the big open space on the south side of Letenske Sady, and some people count the whole park. This is on the north side, next to the famous "Metronome" sculpture. In fact, the wire that these sneakers are hung on supplies electricity to the Metronome.

World War I Memorial in Jince, Bohemia (CZ), 2009

This is the World War I memorial in the village park in Jince, perhaps one of the least-known of the war memorials in the Czech Republic. I'm still quite impressed by it, though, and it's already one of my favourites.

Prague From Letna Beer Garden, Prague, CZ, 2008

The Letna beer garden (actually a misnomer, as there are several) is a well-liked hangout for most kinds of people in Prague, particularly foreigners, and so I found myself at a party of old friends there during the summer. This beer garden has a good view of most of Prague since Letna is at a pretty high elevation compared to the rest of the city, and in some ways the views are even better than on Petrin. In any case, in this photo you can clearly see both the Stefanikuv Most and the Zizkovske Televizni Vez.

If you swing your camera over to the right of the last photo, you also can get a good view of the Stare Mesto, or old town, with the male and female towers of Tynsky Chram on the left, and the clock tower of the Stare Radnice (Old Town Hall) to the right of it.

For some reason, in spite of the Fall colors in real life, this shot came out somewhat green. I decided to post it anyway since I think it's a nice composition of Hlavni Nadrazi.

I like this shot better than Picture 3, but nevertheless I decided to upload both of them to see what you thought.

Just as I was getting into my second-to-latest Josefuv Dul trip, I noticed that I had a roll of forgotten film!! Therefore, I'm going to digress today. Getting to this photo....Some people consider Kampa an island, in spite of it being linked to the Mala Strana by a fill as well as by the Most Legii, but whether one considers it an island, a peninsula, or just a park, it's an interesting out of the way place that still is part, in strict terms, of the centre, even if few tourists go there. This past fall I saw the opportunity to take Fall foliage photos there.

One part of Prague that doesn't have the greatest reputation, but which nevertheless can lend itself to photography quite well, is the area around Hlavni Nadrazi, or "Sherwood Forest," as locals derisively call it for the alleged crime, of which I've seen very little. There are a lot of exceptionally repulsive bums around, but less so every year. In general the police have been trying to clean the place up in preparation for the opening of the newly-renovated Hlavni Nadrazi in a couple of years (I don't know the scheduled completion date).

This is one of my better ones, but it took me a few tries on these to get the sunlight right. They were actually a lot more colorful than this.

I got out so early in 2007 that many of the trees were still green. Nevertheless, you can see a lot of ones mixed into the green which are changing.

I don't know very much about trees, but these were among the more colorful ones I found.

This photo is the first in a series called "The Beginning of Fall 2007" which I'm going to turn into an album on iPernity. I had messed up on getting out in time during the other years that I had lived in Prague, but in Fall of 2007 I did a better, although not perfect, job. We had a relatively short Fall in 2007 before we got into winter, that's why. Just about everything I shot was in Milichovsky Les, in Haje, and this is Milichovsky Rybnik, or Milichov Pond in English.

Part of the Národní Památník Odposlechu, or National Eavesdropping Memorial or Park, this ear sculpture symbolises the listening ears of the Statní Bezpečnosti (StB) secret police during the days of Communism.

Star Flyer And Other Attractions, Tivoli Gardens,…

In spite of its vintage looks, one of the newest rides at Tivoli Gardens is the Star Flyer, that tower you see in the back, which was completed in 2006. It's considered a carousel, however bizarre that may seem, and being 80 meters tall, that makes it the tallest carousel in the world, or at least the tallest chair carousel. That large building with the fake plastic front is the Glass Hall, dating to 1863, although the current building mostly dates to 1946, when it had to be rebuilt from destruction during the war. It was under construction again as of the time I was there, undergoing a restoration.
