Group: Panasonic, Olympus Micro Four thirds

I really struggle with the idea that a 12-32mm 4/3rds lens is the same as a 24-64mm lens if it were a 35mm film camera, the simple fact is that my 4/3rds camera isn't a 35mm film camera. It is what it is and it has a focal length of upto 32mm, knowing that it is the equivalent of 64mm if it were a film camera is of no practical use when taking photographs with 4/3rds technology. All it tells me is that having taken a photograph with my 4/3rds camera to repeat the shot using a 35mm film camera I would have to use a 64mm lens. So What !!!, yet they sell 4/3rds on the back of technology that became outdated in 1995 or before. So am I missing something? can anyone explain it differently so that I understand how important it is that I should know the difference.
