Excellent shot! Are they there for the aphids?
I’m not keen on wasps near me but I know they have a benefit. I like bees and enough them but they have set up home in the bar window of my dining room! My husband fears the ceiling in the dining room window will fail under the weight of the honeycomb. Let’s hope not!

Well maybe, they have to feed themselves on something...
The giant euphorbia kamponii I have in the patio is full of bees when it blooms, but as there are many apicultors around they don't stay there... and go "home" at night.

Bees on Euphorbia Kamponii, FOR BEES DAY

Let's hope you get the honey and not the roof...

A fine image of these wasps, but I have to admit if I'd taken it I'd have felt safer with a much longer focal length! :-)

I was at 20cm from them... but as temperature was around 40ºC they weren't very reactive...

Brave of you to get near this, they don't usually like visitors.

They were not very active, it was too hot at this time of day...

A super macro shot Isabel.............great work!

I don't mind wasps as long as they keep their distance...........and I wouldn't want them in or around the house. We had an underground nest in the garden a few years ago and we decided to leave them alone...........and kept clear of their flight path. They gave us no trouble and the occupants died out naturally. They've never been back!

Lucky you. My little Estrelinha stepped on a ground nest in a public park, fortunatelly the watering was on so I throwed her underneath and the wasps flew away, I wasn't stung but she was. I was close to home were I had what was needed to give her a lifesaver jab... she was stung so badly and suffered so much...

Beautiful, Isabel. They tend their paper nest so diligently. Like bees, they generally have specialised roles. Some would be nurses, tending the newborn when they emerge from the cells, others are defenders. Those are the ones that would relentlessly and aggressively pursue you if they perceived you as a threat to the nest, as it happened to poor Estrelinha. You know my "story" with wasps, so thank you for this beautiful image that I can enjoy without fear. :)
