My BTO BirdTrack Map

My BTO BirdTrack Map
When I go for a walk I usually notice the wildlife especially birds. Sometimes I go for a walk and record all the bird species I see and sometime I even count the numbers of the bird species I see.

As a little bit of citizen science I then send the records to the British Trust For Ornithology via their BirdTrack system. This is the map of the places I have visited at least once so far in 2019.

Someone I showed this to said “Well you don’t go far but you do have fun” and I suppose that’s correct.

I walk, photograph the area and count the birds.

Great idea................the more information the better. I'm off to the little Welsh island of Skokholm next month which is a bird observatory. Each evening the staff and visitors get together and record details of all bird, animal and insect species we see. Doing the "spotting" and counting as well as taking photos is great fun.

The info collected all goes to the BTO as well.

This will be my third trip there...............if you ever get the chance to go to Skokholm or it's sister island Skomer, it's well worth it! You do have to be careful though as last time we went our 7 day stay was extended to 11 days due to bad weather! This time I'm only going for 3 days (I hope)
