A personal note to my friends here
Dear friends, I am writing this as someone who has been part of this community for many years, sharing photographs, moments, and conversations that have meant a lot to me. This is not easy for me to write, but I want to be sincere. In my later years, I have found myself facing a difficult personal and financial situation, after a lifetime of trying to handle everything on my own. I know many of us face challenges, and I am not writing this to create discomfort, publicity, or pressure. M…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, Happy New Year! Let's work together to have a joyful and healthy 2026. 1) Images suggested for groups. We would love to hear from the membership with any thoughts and ideas on the initial roll-out of the following revision. With the effort to clean up groups, it has been noted that groups often have images that do not fit the group's theme/topic. This is more prevalent in groups where images are added without being checked by an administrato…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, We wish this holiday season brings you and your loved ones many moments of joy. 1) Confirmation of remove/delete action. Following a report by a member of an unexpected deletion of an image, we did not find any bug in the system to explain it. However, the confirmation prompt shown after clicking the [x] for 'Delete this photo' did have 'OK' as the default. Meaning that an accidental second click or hitting [enter] would confirm the deletion.…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, As the seasons change we're grateful for our wonderful community and our continuing working website. We hope the new season brings great art and beauty to each of us. Thank you all for contributing to our modest and advert free place on the web. 1) Group search feature. It was noticed that the Search feature for groups only looked at the title. This update adds the option of including the group description in the search. This is a benefit both…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Photon festival. We have started an experiment. From September 5 to 7, 2025, we had a booth at the PHOTON Photography Festival in Illingen / Saar, Germany, where we promoted Ipernity. Thanks to Bernhard (Bergfex), who traveled from Austria especially for this event, we were able to talk to visitors at the festival and raise awareness of Ipernity. We'll have to wait and see if this will be reflected in the membership numbers. We also l…

Digital Monsoon: The Rhythms of Ipernity’s Server Cycle
The Ipernity platform functions much like a great rainforest. Each night, shortly after midnight, the servers clear, the systems refresh, and the site hums with renewed energy. In these early hours, Ipernity runs fast and clean, like dry air beginning to gather moisture. As users upload photos, exchange likes, and leave comments, they saturate the digital atmosphere with activity. Gradually, as the hours pass, this accumulated load begins to weigh heavy. Latency creeps in like rising humidi…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Server overload update. Access to our website is somewhat improved from the days of unhelpful error messages, but as our servers are still overloaded by bots the team continues to work on finding a solution to the delayed loading of pages. What the team has done: 1) See the previously published article . 2) A new firewall has been installed and with a few updates to the settings, error messages no longer appear and so there has…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Interruptions to our website. As many of you know, we have been suffering recently from slow response times to actual failure to load a page. When this happens to you, please be patient and wait a minute or two before trying to refresh the page, because the site is not offline, just overloaded. This is due to high demand on our system from outside. This has also been causing other types of issues including interruption of daily news emails an…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Additional translation option. It is now possible to translate the "Interests" section in addition to the general section of a member's About page, accessed from the 'More information' link. 2) Minor feature adjustment. The 'Report as inappropriate' box that is seen on received ipermails has been moved over to the right. This is to avoid accidental checking of the box when deleting an ipermail on a touch screen device. 3) Public Domain W…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Summary of the General Assembly of Members. We thank all of you who attended the online meeting. To summarise, the meeting went well, and the board for the coming year was elected. Of particular note is the exciting news that we now have a Vice President whose position will support promoting ipernity along with other tasks. We welcome Andreas Schindler Arlequin Photographie to the position and look forward to their support. That said, it…

About Andreas Schindler (Arlequin Photographie)
My membership of Ipernity is now in its sixth year. I came to Ipernity at a time when the increasing commercialization of existing photo sites and/or communities was increasingly limiting my creativity. Trendy photos were highlighted, while the real treasures remained hidden. This is not surprising, the operators of these sites are profit-oriented, but they live from our work and our enthusiasm. They create a presentation space – but nothing more than that. I came to Ipernity, a real communit…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Welcoming new members. Allow us to remind you of the New Club Members - most recent page. With the wonderful new online message to new members, the team moderator no longer has to send a personal ipermail to them. However, you can choose to visit this page and engage with these new members, like our long time member Jaap van 't Veen does. So, our thanks to Jaap, and may we encourage others to join in this activity of simply being friendly. Is an…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, 1) Notes for new members. It was a task for the Moderator to send an ipermail to new members with useful information. This would inevitably not be at the instant of registration. It also required a decision on who to exclude as likely spammers. The text is now available in our 7 supported languages, as item 1.6 in the FAQ section. We view this as an overall improvement, while accepting the loss of the personal touch. This is mitigated by community bein…

Dear members and friends of ipernity, ============================ For those of you still having problems: If trying to add a new photo to a group, and there is no drop-down list, the first thing to try is the Ctrl+F5 to Refresh. See paragraph below for more about refreshing. If that does not solve the problem, you can try closing and restarting your browser . We do not expect to be able to allow the apps (iPhone or Android) to upload photos. But this is possible with either the…
