Venezianischer Hafen
Der Venezianische Hafen in Chania wurde im 14. Jahrhundert angelegt. Die Arsenale, Steinhallen mit Tonnengewölbe, von 1497 dienten dem Schiffbau, als Depot für Kriegsmaterial und als Winterlager der Galeeren.
Die zwei Türme im Hintergrund gehören zur Sankt-Nikolaus-Kirche. Die Kirche von 1320 gehörte ursprünglich zu einem Dominikanerkloster. Unter der osmanischen Herrschaft wurde das Minarett angebaut und die Kirche in eine Moschee umgewandelt. Nach der Vetreibung der Osmanen wurde das Gebäude wieder als Kirche genutzt. Das Minarett ließ man stehen und baute 1950 einen Campanile an. Das verleiht der heute griechisch-orthodoxen Kirche ein kurioses Aussehen.
