Virneburg ist eine Ortsgemeinde in der Eifel in Rheinland-Pfalz, die zur Verbandsgemeinde Vordereifel im Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz gehört. Ein Wahrzeichen der Gemeinde Virneburg ist die Ruine der gleichnamigen Burg . Um die Burg zu besichtigen, bietet sich eine Wanderung auf dem 9,9 km langen Traumpfad Virne-Burgweg oder dem 3,5 km langen Traumpfädchen Virneburger Burgblicke an. Ich hatte mich für das kürzere Traumpfädchen entschieden. Das Foto ist am Startpunkt des Wanderweges im Tal entstanden und zeigt die Kapelle St. Trinitatis , die unterhalb der Burgruine liegt. Die Kühe schauen, als ob sie mir irgendetwas sagen wollten. Kurz vorher standen sie noch 20 oder 30 Meter entfernt und sind dann entschlossen auf mich zugelaufen.

Walzbachtal

Flugzeuge verbindet man sehr oft mit Urlaub. Ist aber eigentlich gar nicht so. Ich mach dennoch eine kurze Zwischenlandung, bevor ich wieder abhebe und mir noch zwei Wochen Urlaub gönne. In der Zwischenzeit gibt mal ein Bild von meinem Arbeitsplatz. Nein, nicht das Flugzeug ... der Flughafen ;) Und wenn ich wieder da bin, dann schau ich auch was es bei euch neues gibt.

The Polylimnio Waterfalls are a collection of 15 cascading waterfalls and azure and turquoise little lakes located in the heart of Peloponnese. The waterfalls are formed by the flow of the Kadis River. The name of this waterfall complex comes from the word (poly=many, limnio=lake), which together means “many lakes”. Each of the lakes has its own name: for instance Mavrolimna , meaning “black lake”, Tou Italou , which means “of the Italian” and Stathula , which is a girl’s name. The biggest lake is “Kadi Lake”, which has the biggest waterfalls that reach a height of 25 meters. We were really surprised by the gorge with the waterfalls and little lakes, which looks like a paradise on earth. It was one of the hidden gems during our holiday on the Peloponnese. Polylimnio means “many lakes” and this is exactly what we discovered. We walked along a path with rocks, tree roots and metal aiding handles. It was tough and tiring - especially with the high temperatures - but totally worth it.

Picture: Göta Canal between Borensberg and Vandrarhem Glasbruket after a rainy day. The ‘Göta kanal’ is a canal in Götaland with a length of 190.5 kilometers. It runs between Mem on the Baltic Sea and Sjötorp on the eastern shore of Lake Vänern. Together with the river ‘Gota älv’ and ‘Trollhätte kanal’ it connects Stockholm with Göteborg. . The canal - built between 1810 and 1832 - was an important link in the transportation of wood and iron. The promoter and building contractor was the Swedish admiral Baltzar von Platen. 87 kilometers of the canal was excavated manually by 58.000 soldiers. ‘Göta Kanal’ has a width which varies from 7 to 14 meters and a maximum depth of about 3 meters. At its highest point the canal is 91.8 meters above sea level and has 58 locks (PiP 1, one of the locks) along the way. Nowadays the waterway is only used by pleasure boats (Pip 2) and vintage canal boats like M/S Juno (PiP 3), launched in 1874 and specially designed to sail in the ‘Göta Kanal’. It is the world’s oldest registered ship with overnight accommodation.
