Laundry
Up in the minority ethnicity Kalash villages, right on the Afghan border, life goes on as it always has. This woman, in her daily dress..traditional Kalash, pounds the laundry in the water channel of snow melt running by her home. Although in Pakistan this is a dangerous spot. We have been a couple of times and not long after this visit, insurgents came across the Afghan border and committed acts of violence in this village. They wish the locals to convert from their traditional beliefs to hard line Islam.
It is a very remote area of the world, hard to get to, but so very interesting.
I am glad to live in a safe place..and to have a washing machine!

Peace!
I remember doing fieldwork in the mountains of northern Portugal in 1970 and in the villages seeing women washing their laundry in streams like this which really surprised me. The dictatorship still in power then kept peple poor and uneducated but thankfully all has changed now.
Wünsche noch einen schönen Sonntag, liebe Grüße Güni und eine herzliche Umarmung :))

All the best, Doug
Je vous souhaite une bonne et heureuse journée dominicale paisible.
What sort of a world do we live in when people have to risk their lives just doing the washing?
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice composition with great colours.
Shame those from Afghanistan have to cause so much trouble... Should never have been allowed to rule a country!
Best Wishes, Happy Monday, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!
Peter
What a place to be born by. this year... this suntime.
Happy new week my friend.
This kind of laundry is amazing, fascinating, and admirable at the same time.
Wonderful that you were allowed to photograph the woman doing this hard work.
Cheers. Herb
