New Zealand - South Island
Visiting New Zealand had been on our travel "Bucket List" for years. Finally we made it to the South Island, in 2015. In no time, we found ourselves beginning to plan our next trip.

Dual portrait
On our first trip from Christchurch we met this pair of Pacific Black Ducks, who obligingly posed for a portrait. Best on black.
Waterbirds
We found this assortment of waterbirds, including two feral geese, outside Christchurch.

Seen from Summit Rd
Seeing the Southern Alps
Heading west from Christchurch on New Zealand's south island, it was a thrill when the Southern Alps came into clear view as we crossed the moraine surrounding the bed of the Waimakariri River..

Kea at work
Kea are comfortable around people (handouts, please). They're also inquisitive and destructive. We spotted this one in the carpark at Milford Sound, busily trying to extract the door rubber through the gap around the door. Apparently they have been known to enter cars with windows open and pick out the stitching in the upholstery, or enter and trash hikers' tents. Little wonder they're endangered!
