More of the Breakaways

Out in central Australia, between Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta, are some very eroded hills, known as "The Breakaways". They are relics of what the general land surface was some many millions of years ago before erosion took most of it away. These remain because there is some harder rock at the top. Spectacular but very bare country - no place to be caught without water in the summer months.

Definitely one to view large, possibly while contemplating the latest (bleak) news on the status of the IMA bid for ipernity www.ipernity.com/group/2260604/discuss/186918 .

Favourite fences

I guess I'd have to count, among my favourite fences, the type specially made for grapes to grow on. Even better when they use the grapes for wine making. A very happy HFF indeed. :-)

Yellow-winged Locust

This little grasshopper (about 50mm long) was sitting on our driveway. It watched me closely as I took this image. After doing some homework, I can now say that it is a Yellow-winged Locust (Gastrimargus musicus) and reasonably common across Australia. The image in the note would be better for identification purposes. Taking our lead from the grasshopper, we're hopping away over Easter. It's unlikely I'll be online again until our return. Best wishes for the Easter period, everyone.

Old sheepyards

Digging into my archives, some of the old sheepyards at what is now the Lake Mungo National Park. Beyond the fence is saltbush as far as the sand dunes. HFF, everyone.

A very neat rural letterbox, created from an old wine barrel, alongside an equally neat fence. HFF, everyone, and let's hope the IMA is able to achieve a positive outcome for ipernity by this time next week! The current situation is given here: www.ipernity.com/group/2260604/discuss/186918
