Fungus on log

Fungus on log
I have identified this fungus as being from the Calocera sinsensis group, but I cannot be more specific as apparently there are several varieties which can be differentiated only with a microscope - not something I carry, :-)

Frans Schols, Günter Klaus, just"jj", RHH and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

Compared to many other types of mushrooms, it looks a little exotic and is a real eye candy.
Beautiful find, George!

If it was in Europe/America, I would say Calocera cornea ("horn-shaped") hongosdeamericayotroscontinenes.blogspot.com/2018/03/familia-dacrymycetaceae-genero-calocera.html has some good images for comparison (text in Spanish, though). Not many good images of sinensis, but the ones I could find show it growing in groups, rather than in rows like here.

Still, since it's down under, your ID makes more sense.

Either way, a delightful close up of this very colorful organism, George! Mushrooms play a very important role in breaking down vegetable matter and wood in particular and these certainly manage to do their work looking mighty stylish! :)

I have seen this fungus in Norway. So colourful, and it reminds us that you are now in winter.
