Care to try a Lilly-pilly?

Care to try a Lilly-pilly?
These are the fruit of the Lilly-pilly tree, a native of eastern Australia. The actual size of these fruit is about 7-10mm and there are many such bunches on the tree (see note). A few months ago I showed the flowers. Although the fruit are edible I wouldn't suggest picking and trying one, they are mouth-puckeringly astringent. Cooked up with some sugar though, they make a very pleasant sauce.

Explored.

I like the name and the color is beautiful. Somehow I missed the flower when you posted it so I'm glad you included a link here. What a wonderful tree. I can imagine it with some of your colorful birds perched in it.

The fruit loke as striking as the flowers did and the same colour! In Europe we also have some fruit that don't taste too good when eaten raw but will make good jelly or sauces.

Beautiful George. A bigger and fatter bunch than we had on the bushes in the Blue Mountains.

They sound similar to cranberries. Very unpleasant when raw, but a nice, tart-sweet sauce or relish.
