one of george dance's pedestrian shelters of c.1760 from london bridge, built when the last of the houses were removed. two sit here, sheltering all manner of nastiness, whilst one went to guy's hospital for medical students to snog in.

neither i'm afraid. incidentally, st.anne's is a personal bete noir, point blank refusing entry to the general public that has provided millions in restoration grants.

I was warned off from gaining access just after a service, and told that visitors were unwelcome unless actually taking part in a service, and that any photography was out of the question. they've just applied for another large grant to fix the organ, from the heritage lottery fund I think. such people give the entire process a bad name, and jeopardise all such grants to churches.

you'd think that with less and less committed christians around they'd realise the need for a wider audience; a locked church rapidly becomes irrelevant to most locals and certainly has no right to expect grant aid from the public. some priests see photography as irreligious, somehow stealing the holiness or being disrespectful, whilst many incumbents think photos can be worth a fortune. they're wrong on all counts, but then religion is not known for aiding rationality.
