originally built without the windows in 1812, this was a floorcloth factory, producing the georgian equivalent to lino. huge sheets of canvas were painted time after time with patterns in oil paint, being hung up to dry in this manufactory. the layers of paint built up to quite a thickness, being polished with pumice between coats. a very few example can be found in country houses, often black and white simulating marble. later converted to beer bottling, and given windows in the 1970s to become council offices
