Azores

The volcanic portion of Sao Miguel

31 Jul 2019 1 194
The Azores are volcanic islands but there is no flowing lava. In most locations the last eruption is a few hundred years back. You still have secondary signs of volcanism : e.g. hot thermal springs, geysers and hot vents. This is one portion of the geyser fields located near Furnas. . Is it a Trail or a major Road

This beautifully lined dirt road meandered between the fields. On the map is was colored like a 2 lane, paved road. I really enjoyed driving on all those tiny tracks between the fields. . I call these trees "Umbrella Trees"

I haven't seen this species before. Umbrella or Sunshade seems to be an appropriate name. . N70_8600_bib © Copyright 2019, All rights reserved - Post a link, do not copy or embed. Contact me, if you want to use it in your blog or publication or if you want a print

Its' a Trap

25 Aug 2019 1 1 305
Here the trail led along a creek and was next to a swampy area full of (I think) algae color orange due to the high content of minerals and sulfur and sulfur-dioxide. And I noticed the water in that swamp was not coming from the creek but it bubbled up directly from below -- though it was not hot. And so I walked into that trap when the solid looking ground of the trail turned muddy and and I sank in ankle-deep.Not only wet, but covered with orange, smelly algae. .
