Living in a valley means, you only get to see the sun or moon after it climbed high enough to peek over the 3000...4500ft tall hills. Only when traveling, do I get to see the actual sun- or moonrise (or setting sun & moon). This was a particularly beautiful occasion and location with nice sailboats, distant clouds and a perfect pink sky. . Not expecting a lunar eclipse, I initially blamed clouds and haze. But at this point, I doubted that and looked for another explanation. And it turned out, I was at the right time to see a partial lunar eclipse during moonrise. As I often watch eclipses, I am aware of the schedule in California and US west-coast -- but I did not check the astronomy calendar for events happening in the middle of the Atlantic ocean and the Azores. . For this, I don't know the reason but nearly everywhere I drove, the side of the roads were full of these colorful blooming bushes. Typically white and some in blue. In some areas, you have alleys or alamedas with tall trees covering the top of the road and again bushes and wall lining the side. . It is just RAIN not a sever weather system or a hurricane. It is a hurry-rain. that's is in a hurry to get out of here. It still can rain on your parade -- and this time it is not a play on words. All the towns on the island were preparing for their big festival & parade coming in a few days. OTOH, the island is nick-named ILHA VERDE (green island) for good reason -- there's a good amount of rain to keep all the vegetation green all year round. . "From Farm to Fork" -- directly marketing to their potential customers on the city street is easier than waiting for them to drive the backroads to find you. I would have liked to bring a bottle or two home but you cannot carry liquids aboard an airplane. And my luggage is not big & sturdy enough to safely hold bottles without breaking them. Sao Miguel island isn't very big and it has two major volcano stumps on either end. As you climb either slope, you get a pretty good view of the other half of the island. This view is from the volcano on the western half. While the two major mountains dominate the island, you can see many smaller cones sprinkled across the the landscape. .
