It is also one of the most famous Gothic town halls in the world. The first stone was laid in 1439. The construction took thirty years and involved three master builders. The late Gothic Sint-Pieterskerk is located directly opposite the town hall.

The artist Vic De Vos of Bonheiden carved the three beautiful signposts with the symbols of Mechelen in 1954. For decades the woodcarvings showed visitors the way to the most beautiful buildings and museums and were featured on tourist posters and postcards.They have withstood all weathers and were in bad shape. After renovation, everyone can admire them in all their glory in the streets again, for me it's a nice meeting place...
