Zwei Farben - eine Blüte / Two colours - one blossom
The yellow and purple flowering annual wood cow-wort (also called Ivan da Marya; bot.: Melampyrum nemorosum) can be found in the European-Siberian region from the lowlands to mountainous areas. It thrives best in the partial shade of bushes and forest edges, as here along the "forest highway" of Flatz, a forest road that circles the Flatz' bowl at about 600 m above sea level. The flowering period here in Flatz is from the beginning of August to mid-September, elsewhere supposedly even from May to September. In fact, the purple parts don't belong to the actual yellow blossom, but are bracts arranged just above it, but a layman like me can't really tell the difference.
