Wr. Neustadt, Eyrsperg
In the southern and northern aisles of the cathedral of Wiener Neustadt are two aldermen's chairs, which were purchased in 1721. They each offer 7 seats (for the mayor, the judge and the 12 aldermen of the city). The councillor's chair in the southern aisle bears the coat of arms of Matthias Eyrl von Eyrsperg in his honour, who was mayor of Wiener Neustadt from 1670-1689 and was ennobled as early as 1666 for his services to the city's fortifications against the threat of Turkish attacks. His gravestone is in the southern transept. The old Eyrl coat of arms shows in the four-field shield at the top left and bottom right on a red background a green triple mountain, on the top of each of them is a white egg, and in the top right and bottom left field a golden buffalo horn on a blue background. In addition, a part of the ring road around the city centre, the Eyrsperg Ring, was named after him in his honour.
