Wien, Hochstrahlbrunnen / Vienna, High-jet fountain
The Viennese high-jet fountain is located on the outskirts of the city centre on the plaza Schwarzenbergplatz and was commissioned in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I on 24 October 1873 to mark the completion of the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline after a construction period of four months. Behind it, to the south of the high-jet fountain, is the Red Army Heroes' Monument, erected in memory of nearly 17,000 (!!!) Red Army soldiers who fell in the Battle of Vienna towards the end of the Second World War in 1945.
