Very Large Array - Old Wave Guide (5741)

Very Large Array - Old Wave Guide (5741)
When the VLA was first built, the radio signals were piped into the building via wave guide pipes. In the photo there is a wave guide and one cut in half so you can see the interior. Since then, they have moved the electronics out to the antennas. The radio signals are digitized at the antenna and then carried into the control building via fiber optics.
