Gold Hill ~ Shaftesbury

Gold Hill ~ Shaftesbury
A couple of candid shots on Gold Hill. Although it looks like rain in the pictures, it is actually snow. The 2nd PiP shows the path down to Gold Hill from the side of the Town Hall. My daughter and I decided on a coffee and cheese straws in the car!

Eh bien pas facile de circuler dans ce village, de ce temps tu as fais le bon choix Rosa, j'aurais peine d'habiter un village aussi pentu mais plein de charme pourtant !
Bonne soirée mon amie. Bisous.

It's a very hilly town Jocelyne, but Gold Hill attracts a lot of visitors even in this weather ;-)
Yes, we certainly made the right choice.
Wishing you a good evening my friend.

I think I have already seen this charming village in your photo gallery.
And in the snow / rain, I love it !!!!
..But the cobblestones must have been very slippery: you take risks for your friends of Ipernity !!! >>>Nice of you****

The coffee must have warmed you up !!!!

A great set of images Rosalyn going down would be worse than up when it's wet, I assume traffic is banned from it, I have just checked Steep Hill in Lincoln is slightly steeper and is in 4th. position, I hope you have a nice Sunday, it wasn't really worth getting up today with the rain and gloom

Thank you Peter. Traffic is permitted for deliveries, but I have rarely seen that.

Si el cielo está cerrado y parece nevar. Me gustan los brillos en el adoquinado, la perspectiva en descenso y ese color que trasciende del interior, incluso se ve parte de ese cálido interior.
Buen y saludable año, Rosa.

Thank you Jose Manuel. When I started my journey, it was quite bright. You just never know what the weather in Shaftesbury will be like :-) The light is coming from the excellent book shop. It looked very inviting and warm inside.

A very nice story. I am often surprised at how many elderly people walk up and down Gold Hill. It must indeed be good for the legs :-)

The cobbles look great in the wet and the dusting of snow on the roofs gives a hint of what may be coming. The light reflections in your last pip cheer the scene ~ Enjoy your Sunday

Hi Rosa
Welcome back from your holidays!
A very nice set of pictures, which I like very much!
Wonderful and interesting compositions
My first thought was that the hill would be great for sliding down in the snow, just like we used to do in the school playground, long before the 'elf n safety' brigade stopped it!
Best Wishes, a nice weekend, and stay safe!!

Hi Peter,
Thank you very much. I hope you enjoyed the festive break?
Thank you for your kind comments. I have seen many pictures of people sliding down the hill in the snow, but the journey being all uphill from here, it's not one that I would risk, unfortunately.
Best wishes & Sunday greetings,
Rosa.

I never tire of your pictures from this iconic place Rosa. The fact that your pictures were taken in far from ideal conditions has added much to the atmosphere of the scenes. I love the third picture with the warm light from the windows reflected on the wet cobbles. The other two pictures are just as good, with the rain soaked roofs and mist over the rural landscape in the background, giving a soft touch to the scenes.

All the best, Doug

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Doug Shepherd club
That's very kind of you Doug, thank you. My fingers were too cold to change the camera settings! It was good to see the warm glowing light from the book shop along the passage way that prompted me to take the shot.

All the best, Rosa.

A wonderful set of photos Rosa...................the main image is gorgeous with the misty background and the cobbles and building looking fresh and clean when wet. You'd have to be pretty fit to live on that hill...........I'm not sure my knees would like it, especially going downhill.

The colours and detail in the first PiP are superb, but my favourite of the three has to be the second PiP. The warm light from the windows and the reflected light on the wet cobbles is just stunning!

Glad to see you're getting out and about despite the weather!
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you very much for your kind comments Keith. It was nice to see the warm glow from the windows in the 2nd PiP, on such a dreary day. We drove around a couple of villages nearby and spotted some lovely buildings and walks, ready for an outing on a brighter day.

Take care and have a good new week.

A beautiful series of images from this iconic location Rosa. It does look cold..and steep! The climb up would probably warm you up though!! I love the cobbled streets. Reminds me a little of Clovelly. I love the warmth of the light from the windows in the final PiP - you feel like you could warm your hands on it.

Have a lovely evening and good new week

Thank you Carol. I think if I was to look through my gallery, Gold Hill and Stourhead would be the most photographed locations by me ;-) I was nice to see the warm glow, but we eventually warmed our hands on a warming cup of coffee.

I hope you have a good new week Carol.

We really must make an effort to visit Shaftesbury. You always make the view so tempting, Rosa. We have only had a smattering of snow here so far, not enough to cover anything and melting quickly. We have had a couple of brighter days too recently, which have been most welcome. The daily sunshine hours in December were less than 1 hour a day. Really miserable.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
It's not the longest of streets Amelia, but there is something so nice about it. Maybe the extensive views on a clear day, or the circular walk you could take down the hill that leads you along a winding pathway back up to the park, where you can see for miles. My mum and I used to have coffee at the top each week after shopping. I do miss that!
Rather grey here today. I would like it to be colder and brighter :-)
