A fine collection of the beautiful buddleia and the attendant butterflies Rosa. Not known as the butterfly bush for nothing! Ours are looking very sad at the moment, battered by winds and soaked by rain. Oh well, there is always next year;-)

As long as my neighbor has his Buddleja, I'm good to go for butterflies. There aren't as many this year though ..... and summer birds must have gone up to the Blue Ridge Mountains for cooler weather .. heard a Cardinal this morn.
We usually have one who perches on top of the chimney and sings .... this day was the 1st in ages since we heard him.
Ah ...
Visit a Buddleja that somebody else planted and enjoy the winged wonders !

My neighbour's have nice flowers but none have a buddleia Peggy, so I think I must get one for next year :-) I have seen pictures of a cardinal and they are beautiful but I haven't heard their song! Thank you for your great comments and I wish you a good day.

Not many of my butterfly pictures turned out well, so I didn't use one as a main shot. I would love to see and get a good picture of a dragonfly though. We will both keep trying ;-))

The Buddleia attracts butterflies (it is known!) .... but also Somerset photographers !!!!!!!!!

We always call buddleia the butterfly tree too. They are so easy to grow too. Fast to grow as well ~ Good luck growing one ~~~ Best wishes Rosa

I am definitely getting one for next year Nick. There was a large overgrown buddleia in this garden when we moved here nearly 20 years ago, but it was in completely the wrong place. Now I must find a space for a new one :-)) All the best ~ Rosa.

The flower in the main image is really beautiful Rosa and you've captured the tiny flowerlets perfectly. The bokeh is just lovely.

I have three colours in my garden; white, purple (like this one) and a very dark purple. As you say the butterflies and other insects love them. They flowered late this year. Well worth getting just for the photography!

Your two butterfly images are gorgeous...........sharp and detailed with lovely colours. The bokeh in each shot is wonderful.

I took so many pictures of the butterflies but was really disappointed with most of them. These were the only two I felt I could show.

At the moment the white ones seem to the most popular Rosa. I know how you feel about trying to photograph butterflies.............I've deleted far more than I've kept and shown even fewer! I keep some as "record" shots, just for me.

So attractive for the butterflies !

Oui en principe le buddléia plait aux papillons mais cette année j'en ai très peu et ils sont souvent très fugaces, vent, pluie, froid ou trop de chaleur rien ne va pour personne !

Yes, fleeting is a good word Jocelyne. The weather hasn't helped, but you have had more heat than us, and even then it is too much for the birds and butterflies.

Beautiful images Rosa, Buddlea bushes are growing wild all over the area at the moment..

Thank you Roger. Oh yes, I see a lot of them growing in walls and along railway lines, but there are many smaller varieties for gardens now. I will enjoy choosing the right one.

A beautiful set of images Rosalyn, I agree with Roger they are one of the first things to grow on any waste land I assume the garden varieties are sterile they don't seem to grow everywhere, although they are called the butterfly bush I think they flower before the main butterfly season you get more on things like Michaelmas Daisies
