  • The Temple of Athena Nike, goddess of wisdom and victory in war. Based on the numerous times the city was sacked, burned and looted, she wasn't too good at her job.
  • Hmmm, someone doen't seem pleased with the photographer's persistent direction here at the Propylaea, the gateway to the Acropolis.
  • Much better.

  • The Erechtheion
  • The columns of the Erechtheion and the goddess, Tourisma, patron of the Acropolis.
  • The porch of the Caryatids, or porch of the maidens, on the southwest corner of the Erechtheion. These statues are exact replicas of the originals, five of which are in the Acropolis Museum and one in the British Museum.

  • The Erechtheion, with the ruins of the old temple of Athena in the foreground, destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC.
  • Another brick in the wall. Many of the visitors on the hill stopped everything to watch this enormous hunk of antiquity get lifted over the columns and on to the far wall.
